Milan - Europe's largest exhibition center - Italy

More than half of all Milan visitors are business travellers. One of the reasons for this: Fiera Milano, Europe's largest exhibition center with more than 350,000 square meter exhibition surface. Just outside of the city, the new exhibition center Rho Pero has opened in April 2005 and is providing an additional 354,000 square meters of interior and 60,000 square meters exterior exhibition ground.

Milan's stock exchange is one of the ten largest financial markets world-wide and it is Milan - not Rome - that is considered to be Italy's premier business center. Consequently, an atmosphere of industry and efficiency can be felt everywhere in the city.

Milan is generally more glamorous, expensive, cultivated and fastidious than other Italian cities. This is particularly notable in the famous fashion district Quadrilatero della Moda, in renowned shopping streets Via Monte Napoleone and Via Spiga with their numerous designer boutiques, Brera district, and in the trendy nightlife and bar quarter Navigli near the old harbour.

Beyond these attractions Milan is a city that deserves to be explored with open eyes and an open mind. It is alive and seems to emanate something ultimately generous and stimulating, so that citizens of Milan swear that they feel less energetic when they are away. This may explain why so many visitors return and finally settle in Milan. English, after all, has already become a lingua franca here, a development that would be wholly inconceivable in other parts of Italy, including Rome. Perhaps this is why Milan is rumoured to be the most un-italian city in Italy?
